During my American Literature class, I tried to find slave narrative literary themes in the 2013 film “12 Years a Slave.”
“The film is his struggle to return to his original personal and legal status of freedom while also blending in to the environment of slave labor in order to survive.”
I tried to explore the political aspects of “Piñata” by Freddie Gibbs & Madlib in a review for the University Daily Kansan.
“The record combines Gibbs’ hardcore gangsta rap with Madlib’s rock and soul-infused beats. Gibbs’ lyrics have always focused on visceral, biographic authenticity and independence from the trappings of the music industry. ‘Piñata’ explores Gibbs and Madlib’s self-awareness as musicians, especially their contradictions.”
